FED: Prison gangs start 'clean up' of town camps: Macklin

Prison gangs have started cleaning up the Alice Springs town camps .. with Indigenous
Affairs Minister JENNY MACKLIN saying the work will benefit the elderly, women and children.

The clean up started today following a Federal Court ruling last month which paved
the way for the federal government to take over the 16 camps.

The Rudd and Northern Territory governments have vowed to spend 150 million dollars
on new housing .. upgrades to existing accommodation and essential infrastructure .. in
exchange for 40-year leases.
