QLD:Fire damages Brisbane school
BRISBANE, April 27 AAP - Police have declared a Brisbane state school a crime scene
as they investigate the cause of a fire.
The blaze at the Wavell Heights State School in Chermside started about 4am (AEST)
on Wednesday and took about two hours to bring under control.
Nearby resident Trina McGuire told ABC Radio the heat from the fire was intense.
"It was a reasonable wind and lots of embers flying through the air."
School was due to resume on Wednesday after the Easter holiday break but Principal
John Cattoni said it would be closed.
"Some of our year fours, fives and all of our sixes and sevens buildings are gone,
it's been burnt to the ground," he told ABC Radio.
Mr Cattoni hoped the school could reopen on Thursday.
