Qld: Rescues from rips on SE Qld beaches

BRISBANE, Dec 23 AAP - At least five people were rescued from rips or treated for injuries
on south-east Queensland beaches today.

A 25-year-old man was rescued at Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast and another man
suffered minor injuries while body surfing at Kirra.

"We've had a couple of rescues down on the Gold Coast," Surf Life Saving Queensland
(SLSQ) Gold Coast spokesman Stuart Hogben said.

"There's still quite a few rips around but the conditions are a bit better than they
have been for the last couple of weeks."

On the Sunshine Coast, a 12-year-old girl was taken to hospital with possible neck
injuries after being caught in a shore dump at Caloundra.

Two people were rescued after being caught in rips on the falling tide at Alexandra
Headland and another at Kawana Waters.

SLSQ Sunshine Coast duty officer Karen Buckley said the north-easterly winds were also
bringing in a number of bluebottles to the beaches.
