The ATM replacement market in the U.S., robust for several years, is flattening, according to a new ATM shipment survey by Cardline's sister publication, ATM&Debit News. The survey shows ATM shipments grew by only 9.3% last year, to 72,136 in 2005 from 65,994 in 2004. That compares to a 17.5% growth rate from 2003 to 2004. The largest ATM maker in the U.S., Diebold Inc., saw an estimated 5% decline in ATM shipments in 2005, to 17,180 from 18,084 in 2004. Diebold earlier this year predicted a decline in sales to regional U.S. banks. Diebold's main competitor, NCR Corp., appears to have taken market share from Diebold in 2005.
