WA: Church attendance rates up

Churches in Western Australia have reported significant increases in numbers at Catholic
and Anglican services over Easter.

Catholic spokesman Monsignor THOMAS MCDONALD says there's been a marked increase in
the number of young people attending services.

He says the boost is possibly due to the MEL GIBSON film, The Passion of the Christ.

Anglican spokesman MIKE BROMILOW says the attendance at Anglican services in both city
and rural areas had increased on previous years and confirmed many of those in the pews
were young people.

Church leaders have stressed the importance of faith in their Easter messages and have
emphasised the importance of working for peace.
